Sarah Laborde has just joined the Australian Rivers Institute as a postdoctoral researcher. She will be based in Perth and work with Dr. Sue Jackson on a project focused on the social-ecological health of the Fitzroy River, in the Kimberley Region of Western Australia.

Sarah is an interdisciplinary researcher with an interest in the dynamic interconnections between people and aquatic ecosystems. She has a background in geoscience and water resources engineering, and completed a PhD at the University of Western Australia in 2012 with joint affiliations in environmental engineering and cultural anthropology.
Her doctoral research focused on the interactions between hydrological regimes and sociocultural understandings and practices in the Lake Como basin, in Italy.
As she starts part-time with ARI this semester, she is completing a three-year as a postdoc in the Department of Anthropology at the Ohio State University, USA, working on an interdisciplinary project studying and modeling the Logone floodplain in the Far-North of Cameroon as a complex social-ecological system. From July 2017 she will be a full-time ARI researcher, although based remotely in Western Australia.
